Talent Story

Fiona, Frontend Developer

“Fall down, get up, fix your crown, move on!”

Hi, I’m Fiona and I’ve been working at REICHLUNDPARTNER for two years now. I started my job directly after my training at the HTL Leonding. In the HTL I completed the branch IT media technology and discovered my interest in IT. Since the beginning I have been working for REICHLUNDPARTNER in the frontend area and found out that the business aspects behind a company and project management also interest me. I then started my studies at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration after one year full-time and now still work part-time.

What exactly are you responsible for in this job?

I am working as a frontend developer. My main task is to implement designs of websites. I do that mostly with HTML, CSS and Java Script. When I am done with the implementation of a project, our testing and design team take another look at my work and I still improve comments and errors. In addition, I always try to educate myself and also constantly improve our basic prototype. Then, if I still have time, I implement animated banners with Adobe Animate.

What does a typical working day look like for you?

I usually start my working day with a coffee and exchange ideas with my colleagues. After that, I look at what work needs to be done that day and write the items to be done on a to-do list. That way I can prioritize them. It helps me so I know what tasks I can put off in case something spontaneously comes up. We have a meeting every day in the morning to discuss urgent tasks. After that, at the latest, I throw myself into my tasks.

What do you think makes your employer unique?

What makes REICHLUNDPARTNER unique for me is the personal responsibility I have and the support I also get during my studies. After my year of full-time work, I decided that I wanted to continue my education. REICHLUNDPARTNER supported me in this decision from the very beginning and also always offered a lot of flexibility with my working hours during strenuous phases in my studies.

What did you learn for the future at this employer?

Communication is key. Proper communication in the workplace is incredibly important, it can prevent misunderstandings, improve collaboration and therefore increase productivity. It is often difficult to admit that you need help when you are stuck. However, one of the most important things I learned at REICHLUNDPARTNER was that there is a solution to every problem and it is usually easier to find it as a team than alone.

What tip would you like to give to other young talents?

At the end of school, you are one of the oldest and most experienced students in the school. In the first job, however, you are once again one of the beginners in the new company. You have to learn many new skills, understand your new environment, adapt to team habits, and figure out where your strengths and weaknesses lie. It’s perfectly normal to not always know everything in a new job. You have to ask a lot of questions and sometimes you still make mistakes. In such situations, the best thing to do is to admit the mistake, correct it and learn from it. Try to learn from every experience.
