Annual kick-off for the PR industry in Vienna

What is allowed to leak out and what is not. Briefings for the boss. Inquiries from journalists. Crisis PR and much more. Company spokespeople are the keepers and guardians of corporate messages. At the annual kick-off of the PR industry, initiated by Österreichs Journalist, the communication professionals were brought before the curtain.

Laudator with humor

Bruno Aigner worked alongside Heinz Fischer, former Federal President, for 40 years. He acted in the role of press spokesman, secretary and confidant – in jeans. “Can you imagine Bruno with a tie, in a suit or even in tails at the Vienna Opera Ball?” smiled the former politician and confidant of the award winner in his laudatory speech. However, there is one thing that everyone associates with Bruno Aigner – and that is the epitome of absolute loyalty. Aigner was awarded the special prize for his life’s work in Vienna.

Congratulations: Company spokesperson of the year

Peter N. Thier has been voted Corporate Spokesperson of the Year for the fourth time. In each case for his work for Bank Austria, Erste Bank, AUA and now for ÖBB in a team with Gabi Zornig.
“Many people see inquiries from journalists as a threat and pull down the shutters. I always see inquiries as an opportunity to explain my point of view.”

Peter Kleemann from Vienna Airport follows in second place. Nicole Berkmann from Spar is in 3rd place.

This year, the work of 196 spokespeople was assessed. 194 media professionals voted in an online survey conducted by the industry magazine “Österreichs Journalist:in”.

Who is afraid of the bogeyman called AI?

What is this AI? What does this AI do? And how do we deal with this AI? Jonny Böhm, digital expert from Hamburg, presented his keynote on the topic at the ÖBB headquarters in Vienna, which was the venue for the event.

Here are some facts:

  • ChatGPT had one million downloads within five days
  • Potential of AI: less costs, better results, more speed, more inspiration, more innovation buzz
  • Areas of application: Research and conception, project management and accounting, visual creation, content production and adaptation
  • Risks: Legal uncertainties, costly, ethically incorrect, misuse, loss of control
