Virtual Reality

It seems like the hype of summer 2016 was decades ago again. While everyone was still talking about augmented reality in July thanks to Pikachu, Bisasam and Schiggy, all signs are now pointing to virtual reality. But where exactly is the difference?

Augmented reality is the computer-based extension of real perception. In concrete terms, this means that additional information on the environment or on specific objects is usually displayed via a corresponding terminal device. In the example of Pokémon Go, it's the individual characters that have to be caught in the "real" world via cell phone or tablet.

In virtual reality, on the other hand, reality is completely hidden and replaced by a new artificial and computer-simulated world. Thanks to VR goggles, helmets, gloves or controllers, you are completely immersed in a reality that is both visual and acoustic. Numerous such devices will be on display at IFA.

"In the entertainment sector, in the media industry or in tourism, virtual reality will create new worlds of experience." Thus likes Rainer Scharinger, managing director of Reichl and partner eMarketing. But virtual reality glasses are also attracting interest in educational and work environments - in medicine, for example: One in five, for example, would like to visualize the planning of apartments and houses. 15 percent are interested in education and learning projects in a virtual environment. And virtual tours of production facilities abroad, for example, will soon be possible without having to board a plane.

We are excited and will report on the most important findings from the IFA.
