The "Honda Project 2&4 powered by RC213V" is the winner of the worldwide Honda design competition ("Global Design Project") and will be presented for the first time at the 66th International Motor Show in Frankfurt at the Honda booth B11 in hall 9.0. In keeping with the spirit of "Creative Engineering", the "Honda Project 2&4" reflects the company's position as the world's leading engine manufacturer. Last year, Honda produced 28 million engines for the automotive, motorcycle, power equipment, marine and aerospace sectors.
The "Honda Project 2&4" is the result of Honda's continuous effort to create an intense driving experience. This is where the company's unique expertise in automotive and motorcycle development comes together. The engine comes from the RC213V racing machine and has been modified for public roads. The "Honda Project 2&4" thus combines the feeling of freedom of a motorcycle with the maneuverability of an automobile.
The unique drive unit was originally developed for the MotoGP racing series and has now been specially adapted for use on public roads. The V4 four-stroke engine with 999 cc displacement corresponds to the Honda guiding principle "The Power of Dreams", which encourages innovation and originality. With a peak output of more than 215 hp at 13,000 rpm and maximum torque of more than 118 Nm at 10,500 rpm, the unit offers plenty of power. The engine is complemented by a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Worldwide Honda team proves creativity
More than 80 developers and designers participated in the "Global Design Project" - the company's own design competition that is part of its commitment to promoting creative thinking throughout the company. The annual design competition among Honda's globally based design studios is designed to encourage team and project participants to pursue a common goal while achieving unusual results.
The "Honda Project 2&4" was created in collaboration between Honda's motorcycle research and development center in Asaka, Tokyo and Honda's automotive development center in Wako, Japan. The aim was to combine the exciting driving experience of a motorcycle with the attractive handling characteristics of a car to create an even more intense driving experience. The result not only demonstrates the creativity of Honda's design centers, but also challenges expectations of tomorrow's mobility.
A completely new driving experience
The team drew inspiration from the brand's racing genes, basing the body design and engine layout on the legendary 1965 Honda RA272. The design reveals the main frame and functional parts of the vehicle and is more reminiscent of a motorcycle - it has a similar compact design. With a length of 3,040 mm, a width of 1,820 mm and a height of 995 mm, the model weighs only 405 kg. This brings out the power of the mid-engine perfectly. Together with the low center of gravity of the body, this ensures extremely dynamic responsiveness.
The unforgettable driving experience in the open cockpit is further enhanced by the driver's seats: thanks to the "floating" seat, the driver feels the freedom of a motorcycle. This perfectly rounds off the intense driving experience created by the powerful output - the engine only enters the red zone at 14,000 rpm - and the unique technology.
